February As Momentum

Through January the goal was easeful transition. Entering the New Year with a plan. A methodical approach.

Perhaps you reassessed your finances, began learning a new skill or acquiring knowledge in the area you wish to evolve. Maybe you simply observed your thoughts and impulses, began to shift your attitude, and focused on connecting to the part of yourself that is ready for change.

If you have done none of this, but crave the difference this year can bring - join in, and quick.

In February we are moving in to accountability, and grounding in to our willingness. Momentum starts here.

As January closes out we begin to feel slow. We have reached the second half of Summer, nearing the death of Autumn. And no matter how ‘easeful’ this month, it was big.

There is a downward pull in the air, an ache to collapse back in to bliss. A place most of us call comfort. And we can get it, but we can’t stay there.

In February what we really want is boundaries and follow through.

When we rest, we rest hard. With intention, without distraction, and completely energetically isolated from ‘work’. The only accountability we should have here, is the acknowledgement that this rest will get you nowhere if it is not committed to, and respected. Once you take it, you return to your practice - whether that be work, organisation, health, routine, or all of the above.

The key is, when you finally dedicate consistent time and attention to a ‘hard’ thing, time away from it feels free and spacious. Returning to it also feels so, you’re ready for what’s next. The hobby becomes the dance, the balance of active (output), passive (input), and neutral (neither) time creates a charge. Momentum builds.

Boundaries: If i’m working, commit to the work. If I’m resting, commit to the rest. If I’m thinking about working while i’m resting, then I’m not resting and I may as well be working.

The best thing I can do for my creative energy is genuinely take a break from it. Trying to pull on it at all times is only exhausting it. Allow it to recharge and replenish.

What is neutral time? Neutral time is when you are not inputting information, or outputting what you know. It is a time where your analysis is limited, and your mind is free to back end process. This is your subconscious, your connection to source.

Neutral time is when what you do not know and cannot be taught, may be revealed. Ideas and answers drop in here, in the liminal space. This is where we empty out and recharge, like the breeze cleansing an open hallway.

I do this by meditating in silence for 5 mins before bed, watching the sunset, cleaning the house, or even driving - all without music. I work it in without any grand promises. I allow the transition to be gradual and true. That way I enjoy it, I notice it, and I begin to prefer it.

In February we are taking it up a notch by continuing the momentum. By focusing on a balanced lifestyle. By noticing and working in the active, passive and neutral.

This need not be rigorous but it must be consistent. Im not someone who can do the same thing every day, but I am someone who can work in different variations of the same core principles - sunlight, movement, learning, progression toward my goals, limited screen time.

After a month of new habits, it is tempting to feel like the hard work is over. But we don’t want habits, we want a new lifestyle, one that reflects our truth.

There is then no ‘finish’. Only a place where our new habits, morph in to our preferred daily choices. We like the way it makes us feel. Here we notice our vibrational force is strengthened through alignment.

Like when you stopped clubbing long enough to notice you in fact don’t like it, and being home making a nice meal is much more you. It is quite enlivening.

So then through this next month, when momentum feels like dropping off, when we notice our new choices are dwindling back to the old, we jump in, pick up where we left off, and keep it moving.

Remind yourself, this isn’t something you’re forcing yourself to do because you “should”, this is something you want to do. You likethe way it makes you feel, and you like your life when it involve this. Don’t let your inner sook win, they’ll convince you right back to comfort & ease.

Homework:

Categorise your time in to Active (output), Passive (input), and Neutral (neither). Familiarise ways to engage in all three, then ensure you find time to do so. Especially Neutral.

Notice the resistance you’re feeling when it comes to the thing you’re changing, shedding, accumulating, building, progressing - if any. Then straight away recommit, speak to it. Short and sharp.

“I get it but no I’m focusing on that tomorrow”

“great, but I do want to quit smoking so I’m going to pay more attention to that”

“Thanks but no thanks I told myself I was going to cook x for dinner so that’s what I’m doing”

Going back and forth with yourself is a waste of time and a trap. Commit and keep it moving.
